On April 28, 2025, the National Central Library (NCL) held a press conference to unveil the 2024 Capabilities of Taiwan’s Academic Resources Report, announcing the overall development and impact of Taiwan's academic resources over the past year.
The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences (KJMS), published by Kaohsiung Medical University, received the Contribution of Periodicals and Journals Award for its outstanding performance in promoting academic research and sharing scholarly resources. This recognition established it as one of Taiwan's key representatives in the medical field.
In addition, the Impact Factor of KJMS for 2024 has reached 3.1, marking a significant milestone for our journal. Notably, KJMS currently ranks 88th among 195 journals in the "Medicine, Research & Experimental category, elevating it to Q2 in this field and demonstrating remarkable progress and influence in the international academic community.
The event gathered over 160 representatives from academic journal publishing institutions. As of the end of 2024, NCL Taiwan Periodical Literature, the National Central Library’s official academic periodicals platform, had collected over 3.35 million bibliographic records and archived 2.42 million full-text journal articles, with annual full-text downloads exceeding 10.3 million. A summary of the top ten journal search keywords in 2024 revealed that "Artificial Intelligence" emerged as the most searched research topic, surpassing “COVID-19.” NCL Director-General Han-Ching Wang emphasized the critical role of research institutions, academic publishers, and scholars in shaping Taiwan’s academic resource landscape. The NCL’s annual report not only reflects user interests and usage trends but also provides valuable insights to guide content acquisition and strategic focus in publishing and research.
The Capabilities of Taiwan’s Academic Resources Report, released annually by the National Central Library, serves as a key benchmark for Taiwan's academic community. The report offers a comprehensive assessment of the current state of academic resources and provides insights into future trends. Ms. Lee Hui-Chu, Associate Vice President of Library and Information Services at Kaohsiung Medical University and Executive Editor of the journal, represented the publication at the awards ceremony. This honor affirms KJMS’s long-standing commitment to editorial excellence and the dissemination of medical research. With a rigorous academic approach and international perspective, the journal provides a high-quality platform for academic exchange among medical researchers and has played a vital role in promoting international visibility for Taiwan’s medical research.
