The memories at the campus gate carry the footsteps of generations of KMU people.

For many, the Zihyou Road gate was not just an entrance to the campus, but the very starting point of their dreams—symbolizing the beginning of countless stories of youth.

▲On June 7, 1983, the Zihyou Road gate was officially inaugurated, symbolizing a new milestone for KMU. 

▲The “Kaohsiung Medical College” Zihyou Road gate stood from 1983 to 1999, accompanying KMU through 16 memorable years. 

▲On August 1, 1999, the institution was officially renamed “Kaohsiung Medical University,” with the new nameplate unveiled at the Zihyou Road gate. 

▲Since 1999, the “Kaohsiung Medical University” Zihyou Road gate has safeguarded the campus and borne witness to 26 years of growth and transformation.

Today, in order to ease traffic congestion at the outpatient driveway and pedestrian walkway of Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, the Zihyou Road gate that has stood for 42 years will soon become part of history. Yet, the youth, stories, and footprints it has witnessed will forever remain in the collective memory of the KMU community.

The demolition does not mark an end, but rather a new beginning. A brand-new gate—safer and more in line with present needs—will soon rise at the campus, accompanying KMU people as they embark on the next chapter.
