vehicle they have donated to their alma mater. On the right is Hospital Director Huang Hsuan-Ti.
Since its trial operation in April last year, Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital has upheld the mission of safeguarding local residents’ health by establishing models such as primary care referral, home healthcare, integrated screenings, vaccination services, and community lectures—achieving remarkable results within just one year.
To express gratitude to KMU Alumni Association President Chiu Liang-Chin and his wife Feng Chen-Fen for donating a community health mobile clinic vehicle to strengthen health promotion services, the hospital held a vehicle donation and ribbon-cutting ceremony on the morning of July 3, marking its first anniversary of operation. On this occasion, the hospital also presented the couple with the symbolic “Gangshan Three Treasures,” representing the strong ties between KMU and its alumni, as well as a shared commitment to cultivating health for the people of the greater Gangshan region.
President Chiu, an outstanding alumnus of the 25th graduating class of KMU and Governor of Lions Clubs International, has long been dedicated to public welfare and giving back to his alma mater. In March this year, upon taking office as President of the Alumni Association, he raised NT$10 million to purchase medical vehicles for rural service. More recently, he also launched the “Take-Off Dream Scholarship” fundraising campaign with a target of NT$5 million. Thanks to enthusiastic support from fellow alumni and Lions Club members, the campaign exceeded its goal, raising NT$6.51 million in total, which will be used exclusively to help disadvantaged students pursue their studies without financial burden.
In addition to supporting education funds, scholarships, and international medical aid, and funding the renovation of KMU’s Healthcare Management Lecture Hall (now named “Liang-Chin Hall”), Chiu has so far donated seven vehicles to the KMU healthcare system. These include KMU’s Local Care Vehicle, Rural Medical Service Vehicle, KMU Hospital Medical Mobile Vehicle, Xiaogang Hospital Welfare Vehicle, Datong Hospital Welfare Vehicle, and Cijin Hospital Welfare Vehicle. With the donation of the Community Health Mobile Clinic Vehicle to KMU Gangshan Hospital, the final piece of the KMU medical fleet puzzle has been completed.

KMU Gangshan Hospital Director Huang Hsuan-Ti stated in his remarks that since its founding, the hospital has actively promoted community healthcare and health promotion. It has signed referral agreements with 12 community medical groups, partnered with home care centers to provide home healthcare and palliative care, and built integrated home care services. The hospital has also undertaken services from public health centers, such as integrated screenings and vaccinations, and regularly enters communities and long-term care stations to hold health education lectures. The goal is to connect community and primary care resources to establish a comprehensive healthcare network for the greater Gangshan area.
Director Huang emphasized that the health mobile clinic vehicle donated by President Chiu greatly enhances the hospital’s capacity for community outreach, enabling medical teams to serve communities and long-term care stations more flexibly and efficiently. It will strengthen services in home healthcare, preventive care, and health promotion, fulfilling the mission of “healthcare without boundaries” and further safeguarding the wellbeing of local residents.
With deep emotion, President Chiu shared that he and his wife first met and built their bond at KMU, and that all three of their children were born there. Among the six members of his family, including his son-in-law, four studied at KMU—showcasing a lifelong connection with his alma mater. Six years ago, Chiu himself suffered from severe nerve compression in his cervical spine, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Thanks to a nine-hour surgery performed by KMU Vice President and neurosurgeon Dr. Lin Chih-Lung, he was able to recover. Having survived such a life-changing ordeal, he now feels even more grateful to KMU and its affiliated hospitals.
“Thanks to the nurturing of my alma mater, my wife and I were honored to be recognized as Distinguished Alumni, and I now have the privilege of serving as President of the Alumni Association. This is truly a great honor,” said Chiu. “I am deeply grateful for the chance to give back to my alma mater and society. I hope this community health mobile clinic vehicle will become a valuable partner to KMU Gangshan Hospital, reaching long-term care institutions, community centers, and disadvantaged groups. May it allow seniors and mobility-impaired residents to enjoy quality healthcare services close to home, free from barriers.”
