KMU Gangshan Hospital has introduced an advanced 1152-slice CT scanner, enhancing high-level image interpretation for early lung cancer,
coronary artery stenosis, and brain lesions.

On October 9, Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital held a launch ceremony for the 1152-slice CT scanner,

To strengthen its precision diagnostic capabilities, Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital has introduced a new 1152-slice CT scanner, which officially went into service on October 9. The system combines ultra-fast scanning, low radiation dose, and outstanding image resolution—enhancing advanced image interpretation for early lung cancer, coronary artery stenosis, brain lesions, and more—aiming to offer residents in northern Kaohsiung the safest and most advanced imaging services.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, cancer and heart disease are the top two causes of death in Taiwan, with lung cancer being the leading cancer killer—underscoring the importance of early detection. Hospital Superintendent Huang Xuan-Di noted that the hospital was equipped with a high-end 768-slice CT at its opening and has now added an even more advanced 1152-slice unit. “With two flagship systems on par with those at medical centers, we can deliver top-quality CT diagnostics locally. People no longer need to travel to a medical center to receive high-quality examinations—advancing KMU’s mission of ‘local care, local peace of mind.’”
Dr. Yi-Ting Han, Director of Medical Imaging, explained that the 1152-slice CT features an exceptionally fast gantry rotation, enabling whole-body scans in just two seconds. This means older adults, young children, or patients prone to movement typically do not require sedatives during the exam. The scanner also significantly reduces radiation dose and contrast-medium usage, improving safety for patients with kidney disease. Beyond precise early lung cancer detection, the 1152-slice CT enables quicker, safer cardiovascular screening; even patients with irregular heart rhythms can undergo CT assessment for coronary artery stenosis to evaluate possible coronary artery disease.

The 1152-slice CT suite features ambient, scenario-based lighting to help ease patients’ tension and anxiety during exams.
In addition, the 1152-slice CT suite features a patient-centered ambient lighting design. By orchestrating red, green, blue, and yellow lighting with gentle rhythms and transitions before and during the scan, the space fosters relaxation—effectively easing patients’ tension and anxiety and enhancing comfort throughout the examination.
Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital stated that, to meet local health needs, it will integrate the capabilities of the Department of Medical Imaging and the Health Management Center to strengthen cancer and cardiovascular screening, improve accessibility and completion rates, and provide residents of northern Kaohsiung with faster, more accurate, and more reassuring prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
