KAOHSIUNG, TAIWAN — How much explosive energy can seniors with an average age of over 75 possess? Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital (KMSH) recently hosted the "2025 KMH-Eight Treasures: Healthy Harmony Achievement Gala," transforming the venue into a vibrant community carnival. The event featured a high-spirited "Silver-Haired Troupe" from eight Tier-C Community Care Stations across Fengshan, Linyuan, Siaogang, and Qianzhen districts, showcasing the hospital's deep-rooted success in community cultivation and the practical implementation of national long-term care policies into everyday happiness.
The theme "KMH-Eight Treasures" symbolizes the eight care stations as precious pearls scattered across Southern Kaohsiung, strung together by Siaogang Hospital into a tight-knit community care network. To honor the seniors' year-long dedication, KMSH designed a unique celebration attended by distinguished guests, including Legislator Lin Dai-hua and local community leaders, who witnessed the confidence and joy of the participants.
The atmosphere was electric. The "Senior Groove" performance from Gangxing Village displayed footwork rivaling that of the youth. The true star of the show was 92-year-old Grandma Huang-Yang Xiu-xia from the Dalinpu Care Station. Sporting playful reindeer antlers, she proudly displayed her handmade crafts. Through rhythmic percussion and fine handicraft classes, Grandma Huang-Yang perfectly embodied the spirit of "active aging."
Siaogang Hospital stated that the national vision for Tier-C Care Stations goes beyond "care"—it focuses on "prevention" and "empowerment." By encouraging seniors to step out of their homes and engage in social and physical activities, the hospital effectively reduces feelings of isolation and the risk of depression while achieving the goal of delaying disability.
Looking ahead, Siaogang Hospital will continue to leverage its medical expertise to maximize the functions of the "Integrated Medical & Long-term Care Center." By utilizing the ICOPE (Integrated Care for Older People) assessment tool, the hospital aims to detect health anomalies early and introduce modular courses focused on "muscle strengthening" and "nutrition," realizing the beautiful blueprint of "Aging in Place & Prosperous Harmony."
