On every campus, there are spaces that hold memories beyond the classroom. Perhaps it is the red-soiled athletic field, or a court where students work up a sweat—places where, amid busy academic schedules, one can pause, catch a breath, and begin again. These shared spaces—where daily life, interaction, and physical and mental balance converge—have long been an essential part of the University’s campus planning. With the construction of the International Student Dormitory, such spaces are gradually taking shape.
Among the many supporters of the new dormitory, Distinguished Alumnus C.C. Lee, a recipient of KMU’s 8th Distinguished Alumni Award, has pledged NT$2 million to sponsor the dormitory’s table tennis room. His generous support stems from a deep emotional bond with his alma mater and reflects the formative years he spent at KMU, where student clubs and sports became an integral part of his personal growth.
A graduate of the 11th class of the School of Pharmacy, Lee originally aspired to study medicine but narrowly missed admission to the School of Medicine. After entering the School of Pharmacy, however, he gradually discovered his direction through extracurricular involvement. A former provincial-level table tennis athlete, he co-founded the campus table tennis club and served as its first captain. He also held the position of deputy secretary-general of the Student Activity Center, where he learned to communicate and coordinate among diverse perspectives and roles. To him, student organizations functioned like a miniature society—offering early lessons in the complexity and value of human interaction, while cultivating the resilience and openness that would later guide him in the wider world.
At the age of 28, Lee founded the Taiwan-based haircare company Maywufa, steadily building what has become the Maywufa–White Biotech Group, with business ventures spanning haircare products, pharmaceutical marketing, new drug development, and biomedical research and innovation. He has always believed that true success rests on a balanced state of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Athletic spaces, in his view, are not merely venues for exercise, but starting points where young people learn self-regulation and develop resilience. His sponsorship of the table tennis room is a tangible expression of this philosophy and a meaningful way of giving back to his alma mater.
As the International Student Dormitory nears completion, the table tennis room will become part of students’ daily lives—a space for connection, relaxation, and serendipitous encounters. More than just a room within a building, it embodies the heartfelt support of an alumnus, accompanying future generations as they write their own chapters of youth on campus.
