Taiwan’s professional volleyball league has entered its historic inaugural season, marking a new chapter for the nation’s sports industry. Beyond the excitement on the court, players are now backed by the expertise of a medical center–level healthcare team. To fulfill its social responsibility and advance sports medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital (KMUH) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the TSG Hawks volleyball team. By integrating clinical care with sports science across the KMUH system, the partnership provides comprehensive health support for athletes.

During the team’s home game on March 29, KMUH leaders were invited to deliver the ceremonial first-pitch guests. The “most powerful cheering squad from the medical community” made an impactful appearance, demonstratingKMUH’s unified university–hospital effort to protect public health and extend its impact beyond clinical settings.

The ceremony was led by Chairman Chien-Chih Chen of the Kaohsiung Medical University Board of Trustees, alongside President Ming-Lung Yu and other university and hospital leaders. In a symbolic sequence, Chairman Chen passed the ball to the leadership team, who then served together—representing strong collaboration under the board’s leadership and the transformation of medical expertise into a powerful support system for athletes.

KMUH’s commitment to athlete health goes far beyond slogans—it is proven through real-world medical response. In November last year, TSG Hawks Iranian outside hitter Abasi suffered an injury during a regular-season match. KMUH immediately activated its “sports injury fast-track system.” KMU Gangshan Hospital conducted an emergency MRI to assess ACL and meniscus damage, followed by prompt transfer to KMUH. There, orthopedic specialist Dr. Po-Hsi Chou performed reconstructive surgery, which was successful. The player then entered a seamless, personalized rehabilitation program, demonstrating the efficiency and professionalism of KMUH’s integrated, end-to-end sports medicine care system. With years of dedication to sports medicine, KMUH has developed a comprehensive care model covering injury prevention, performance monitoring, psychological support, and post-surgical rehabilitation. This expertise is also being extended into the community, encouraging public participation in sports and reinforcing the vision of a “Healthy Taiwan.”

Chairman Chien-Chih Chen emphasized that sports are not only about competition but also a cornerstone of health promotion. KMUH has long been committed to extending its medical expertise into society, and collaboration with professional teams represents a key step in that mission. Moving forward, KMUH will continue advancing sports medicine by integrating AI and precision healthcare, enabling both athletes and the general public to benefit from more scientific and personalized healthcare services.

President Ming-Lung Yu added that this partnership is not just medical support, but a meaningful public health initiative. By leveraging the influence of professional sports, it encourages people to value and engage in physical activity, making health a natural part of daily life. KMUH will continue fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to build a more comprehensive sports medicine ecosystem.

The TSG Hawks volleyball team noted that the league’s inaugural season is a major milestone and expressed gratitude for KMUH’s professional and comprehensive medical support. This partnership enables players to maintain peak performance in a high-intensity competitive environment while contributing to the overall development and competitiveness of volleyball in Taiwan.
