Since its opening, Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital has welcomed nearly 150 newborns into the world. To continue fostering emotional connections with local families, the hospital hosted the “Baby Is Here! Parent-Child Comfort Class” on the morning of June 22. As part of the event, it held its first-ever Baby Crawling Contest, inviting 24 babies aged 7 to 10 months to “return home” for the competition. The venue was filled with laughter, bringing a warm and joyful atmosphere to the hospital.

A dedicated crawling track was set up for the event. As the host called out, “Ready—Go!”, babies lined up at the starting point began their race. Some crawled with determination toward their parents waiting at the finish line, while others were easily distracted—looking around, crawling toward neighboring competitors, spinning in place, or even turning back to look for their moms in tears. The entire room echoed with laughter. To encourage their little ones, parents used all sorts of creative tricks—ringing bells, waving toys, and excitedly calling out their baby’s name—creating amusing and heartwarming scenes of parent-child interaction.

In the end, five babies stood out with impressive speed and energy, earning the top spots in their groups. All the little participants received generous prizes such as first birthday photo sessions, baby walkers, and baby care product sets, sending families home full of joy and beautiful memories.

In addition to the contest, the hospital also organized an informative infant care course attended by 30 new parents. Led by pediatrician Dr. Ho Feng-Ching, the session covered “Emergency Response and Simulation for Newborn Choking and Coughing”, along with a parent-child health exercise demonstration, offering practical and reassuring knowledge and support for first-time moms and dads.

Dr. Chen Yi-Chen, Director of Pediatrics at KMU Gangshan Hospital, noted that in the past year, the most common pediatric issues in the Gangshan area include coughs, asthma, respiratory infections, gastrointestinal discomfort, allergic conditions, and developmental assessment needs. In particular, there has been a clear surge in respiratory symptoms recently, with increasing cases of influenza, COVID-19, and other respiratory infections reported in daycare centers and kindergartens.

Dr. Huang Chih-Jen, Vice Superintendent of the hospital, emphasized that in response to community needs, the hospital offers comprehensive pediatric outpatient and emergency services, along with developmental assessments, vaccination consultations, and infant nutrition guidance—dedicated to becoming a reliable partner for parents on their parenting journey.

KMU Gangshan Hospital stated that it will continue to promote parent-friendly initiatives and maternal-child health programs, deepening its connection with families and the community. The hospital aims to stand by new parents through every important stage of their child’s development, creating a warm, supportive, and health-focused care environment.
