Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) held the “2025 KMU International Conference on BioMedicine (ICOBM)” from October 10 to 12, 2025, featuring the inauguration of the Biomedical Artificial Intelligence Academy during the opening ceremony. The event marks KMU’s official step into a new era of smart healthcare and interdisciplinary innovation.

KMU Board Chairman Chen Chien-Chih stated that this is the university’s first large-scale international conference centered on AI in medicine, symbolizing the deep integration of artificial intelligence and healthcare. He emphasized that this convergence is not only about technology but also about redefining the meaning of “caring for life.” As a leading academic institution in southern Taiwan, KMU strives to combine rigorous scientific research with humanistic care, developing AI-assisted clinical systems that enhance patient care quality and accelerate therapeutic innovation.

KMU President Dr. Ming-Lung Yu further noted that the university, upholding its founding spirit of “Humanity, Professionalism, Innovation, and Excellence,” aims to strike a balance between technology and humanity in creating a people-centered smart health city. By integrating research, education, and care, KMU seeks to benefit society. He expressed hope that the conference would become a platform for inspiring ideas, fostering collaboration, and nurturing innovation, paving the way for future breakthroughs in medicine.

In response to the global surge of smart healthcare development, KMU officially established the Biomedical Artificial Intelligence Academy, integrating medical and technological resources both within and beyond the university. The Academy focuses on AI talent cultivation, intelligent healthcare solutions, and big data analytics in biomedical research, aspiring to become a key driver of smart healthcare in southern Taiwan. Through this initiative, KMU aims to train top-tier professionals equipped with both clinical insight and AI innovation, injecting new momentum into the sustainable and intelligent development of healthcare.

The 2025 ICOBM, themed “AI Revolutionizing Medicine: Opportunities and Challenges,” brought together 84 distinguished speakers from six countries, attracting nearly 1,000 participants. The conference covered 13 major fields, including artificial intelligence, university social responsibility (USR), precision environmental medicine, regenerative medicine, sports medicine, medical policy (telemedicine, geriatric and long-term care), precision medicine, medical education/IRB/ethics, mastication and swallowing research, oral medicine, metabolic diseases, cancer medicine, and precision drug development—demonstrating KMU’s strong interdisciplinary integration and international research collaborations.

In addition to the main conference, several thematic forums and sessions were held, including the International Conference on Athlete Care and Performance (ICACP), the National Health Research Institutes Forum, the Precision Health Forum 2025, and the Kaohsiung International Liver Forum 2025. These activities further strengthened the connection between interdisciplinary research and clinical application.

Through this international conference, Kaohsiung Medical University built a bridge for academic and professional exchange among domestic and international experts, promoting mutual growth and global collaboration in smart healthcare, and jointly advancing toward a new era of medicine.
