The prestigious 2025 World’s Top 2% Scientists List, a highly regarded global academic ranking, was recently released, with 44 scholars from Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) earning a place on the list for their outstanding academic contributions. This marks a significant 25% increase from last year’s 35 honorees, highlighting KMU’s growing research strength and international impact, as well as the success of its systemic efforts to promote research innovation and academic excellence.
The list, compiled by a research team at Stanford University based on data from the global academic database Scopus, evaluates multiple key indicators including total citation counts and the H-index. It publishes both a career-long impact ranking and an annual impact ranking, covering millions of scientists worldwide. The inclusion of 44 KMU scholars demonstrates the university’s prominent standing and research influence on the global academic stage. Their fields of expertise span six major areas—Clinical Medicine, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Enabling and Strategic Technologies, and Public Health and Health Services—and extend across 20 subfields, reflecting KMU’s strong interdisciplinary research capacity and steady progress toward becoming a world-class research-oriented medical university.
The university’s strong research momentum is also reflected in the annual scientific impact ranking, where KMU scholars achieved notable positions across diverse disciplines, including Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Oncology & Carcinogenesis, Dentistry, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Surgery, Urology & Nephrology, Medicinal & Biomolecular Chemistry, Nursing, Energy, and Marine Biology & Aquatic Sciences.
