Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) held the 71st Anniversary Celebration Ceremony on October 16, 2025, bringing together distinguished guests from industry, government, academia, and research sectors to celebrate the university’s outstanding achievements in education, medicine, and research, and to offer their heartfelt congratulations.
In his address, Chairman Chien-Chih Chen encouraged the KMU community through the letter “I,” representing both Impact and Internationalization. He remarked, “One ‘I’ stands for ‘me,’ but many ‘I’s together form ‘we.’” He urged all members of the KMU community—whether on campus or around the world—to unite their collective strength and amplify KMU’s influence globally. Chairman Chen emphasized that the true embodiment of “Sustainable KMU” lies in nurturing healthcare professionals who combine humanistic values with professional expertise, fulfilling the university’s commitment to serve humanity and advance medical care.
President Ming-Lung Yu, in his remarks, highlighted this year’s anniversary theme, “OneKMU,” symbolizing integration, unity, and co-creation. He explained that “OneKMU” represents, internally, the close collaboration among KMU’s colleges, research units, and affiliated medical institutions, fostering mutual growth and synergy. Externally, it connects KMU’s global alumni network, enabling all KMU members—wherever they are—to stay in tune with their alma mater. President Yu underscored that this spirit of integration is the driving force behind “One KMU, One Future,” inspiring faculty, students, alumni, and partners to work hand in hand toward a more remarkable future.
During the ceremony, KMU presented the Outstanding Alumni Awards and Exemplary Faculty and Staff Awards, and expressed sincere appreciation to enterprises and benefactors who have long supported the university’s development. To further promote research excellence, KMU established two new honors this year—the KMU Distinguished Research Award and the KMU Young Distinguished Research Award—to encourage faculty members to pursue innovation, enhance research capacity, and strengthen KMU’s international influence.
Since founding in 1954, Kaohsiung Medical University has upheld the core values of “Respect for Life and Pursuit of Truth,” growing into a comprehensive medical university integrating education, research, healthcare, and social responsibility. Guided by the “OneKMU” vision, the university continues to align internal and external resources, deepen local engagement, and expand global connections—cultivating professionals with foresight and a strong sense of social responsibility, and advancing health sustainability and societal well-being.
To celebrate the 71st anniversary, KMU launched a series of campus-wide events, including international interdisciplinary conferences, sports competitions, departmental celebrations, a campus fair, and a concert—fostering unity among faculty, students, and alumni.
