Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital (KMSH) hosted its 27th Anniversary Celebration under the theme "Sustainability × Smart × Friendly: Co-creating i-KMSH." The event was attended by distinguished guests, including representatives from the National Health Insurance Administration (Kaoping Division), local legislators, councilors, village chiefs, China Steel Corporation (CSC), educational institutions, local enterprises, and the Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) Health System. Superintendent Dr. Hong Zhi-xing expressed his gratitude for the support received over the past year. He encouraged staff to uphold the core values of "Sustainability × Smart × Friendly," implementing the KMU system's vision to drive continuous innovation and demonstrate the profound impact of a public hospital deeply rooted in the community.
Global Vision and Social Impact Mr. Chen Chien-chih, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Kaohsiung Medical University, stated in his remarks that the KMU Health System is driven by the vision of "Internationalization" and "Social Impact." He emphasized that the development of the healthcare system lies not only in hardware expansion but also in driving medical progress with a global perspective and giving back to society through tangible actions. He highlighted KMSH as a pivotal field for this philosophy, particularly in promoting specialized Mastication and Swallowing Care to the international stage. By practicing sustainable medicine locally, KMSH fulfills the mission: "Where there is a need, KMU is there," showcasing the value of local care combined with international visibility.
One KMU: Integration and Sustainability Awards Dr. Yu Ming-lung, President of Kaohsiung Medical University, noted that the university's core initiative for the year is "One KMU," symbolizing integration, unity, and co-creation. He pointed out that KMSH inherits the spirit of "Medical Practice," demonstrating innovative energy in clinical fields and achieving breakthroughs in sustainability. He commended KMSH for its impressive accolades, including the Global Views Monthly ESG Medical Sustainability Award, the 2025 Asia-Pacific and Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards, the National Sustainable Development Award, and the Bronze Level Net Zero Label in environmental protection, proving KMSH's competitive edge in sustainability.
Capacity Expansion and Future Goals Superintendent Dr. Hong Zhi-xing remarked that this year marked the completion of several critical missions. The hospital successfully fulfilled its contract for total bed capacity, now reaching 761 beds, with expanded ICU and hemodialysis units to significantly boost care capacity for acute, critical, and chronic conditions. Additionally, the comprehensive renovation of day wards, the Health Management Center, and outpatient areas ensures a more comfortable and friendly environment for patients.
Looking ahead, Dr. Hong announced that KMSH successfully completed its hospital accreditation this September. The hospital is now actively working towards becoming a "Heavy Duty Emergency Responsibility Hospital," with the goal of passing the relevant accreditation by 2032. This milestone will comprehensively strengthen regional acute and critical care capabilities, safeguarding the lives and health of residents in Southern Kaohsiung.
