-Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital-
Kaohsiung Medical University Gang-shan Hospital is the first hospital in southern Taiwan built adjacent to a metro station, serving nearly 570,000 residents in northern Kaohsiung. Beginning with a feasibility study in 2014 (Year 103 of the ROC calendar), followed by the establishment of a preparatory office in 2016, the hospital’s development journey—planning, construction, and opening—took a full decade. The hospital officially began trial operations on April 22, 2024, and celebrated its first anniversary on May 8, 2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter in healthcare services for northern Kaohsiung.
Located next to the KMU Gang-shan Station on the Kaohsiung MRT, the hospital’s architectural design was inspired by the native grass species Miscanthus sinensis. Incorporating curved forms, horizontal lines, and tiered green spaces, the structure blends harmoniously with the local landscape and enhances the healing environment. The medical building comprises ten floors above ground and three basement levels, and it is directly connected to the metro station's second floor via a skybridge, improving patient accessibility. The hospital is expected to reach a milestone of 350 acute and general care beds by 2026.
KMU Gang-shan Hospital addresses the long-standing shortage of regional-level medical facilities in the Greater Gangshan area by offering vertically integrated healthcare services. It houses 34 medical specialties and eight specialized medical centers. In maternal and child healthcare, the hospital features Denmark-imported Sensory Delivery Room (SDR) and Interdisciplinary Assessment Center for Children Development. For cancer treatment, it is equipped with a state-of-the-art linear accelerator and advanced medical imaging equipment, enabling patients to receive cutting-edge care without needing to travel to the city center. The hospital also showcases smart healthcare technologies, including robotic assistants, intelligent wheelchairs, and automated pharmacy storage systems.
Adhering to KMU’s guiding principle—“Wherever healthcare is needed, our service follows”—the hospital integrates professionalism, technology, and compassionate care to establish strong local roots. It is dedicated to promoting public health, advancing smart hospital innovations, and fostering a biomedical industry hub. KMU Gang-shan Hospital will continue to enhance its quality of care and service capacity, aspiring to be a model of compassionate, innovative, intelligent, and sustainable healthcare.
